Baptism Weekend: October 26th

Dominic had visits from friends and family this week... Mindy, Grandma and Grandpa Potter, Aunt Melissa and Grammy Aiello came for his baptism. It was a very sweet service all the way around.

Dominic decided that he was more excited about getting his hands on Cary's microphone than what the Holy Spirit was doing in his life. Someday he'll understand. :)

After all of it he was very excited to be hanging out on mom's shoulder...

and with Mindy, but not so much the pea pod.  He thought we were a little over the top with that one.

Exersaucer Exhausted

There's exhausted, and then there's exersaucer exhausted... Dominic is finally big enough that his feet touch the bottom but his bottom doesn't quite fill the seat!  It's hard having so much excitement at once.  I think he lasted a grand total of five minutes before his eyes slammed shut with a toy in his hand.

Big Enough for the Bumbo!

Dominic can finally sit straight up in the Bumbo chair... that is when he's not ready to fall into bed!
We still really like the swing though...
And Mom's shoulder!
Sometimes I like to sit in my own chair in the living room...
But then again, Dad's arms are always a great place to end up!

A Month In Review...

Okay, so I'm really sorry that it's been a whole month since I posted anything... I'll start with today and work backwards...

I put Dominic down in his bed this afternoon when he was a little drowsy and of course, once his head hit the mattress, he was wide awake, so we spent some time talking to the mobile and again... once I got the camera, he stopped talking so much. Here's a peek at him anyway... he's just so busy these days!
Oh, and you can hear Lucia and the neighbor's dog playing outside in the background... that's not Dominic growling. :)

A couple of nights ago, I got out the Bumbo chair (Thanks Cousin Caleb!!!) to see if he was ready for it.... We're still a bit floppy headed. Maybe we'll try again in a few weeks. :)

Last Sunday night, Dominic stayed home with his dad because I had a meeting before youth group. Needless to say, since the Steelers were on, they were watching the game. This is what I came home to...

Of course, we really like chilling with Dad. What a great place to hang out!!!

This is Dominic in the Youth Center getting ready to go eat lunch with Sallie and I. Too bad we don't have a Rainforest Cafe here in Jackson... he looks like he's ready for the jungle.

Nothing like a good nap with a pacifier and a burp rag. All a boy could ever need!

We went to Iowa the last week in August. Here's a picture of Dominic with his cousins and then a slideshow with some of the other friends and family that we met. It was a busy time!

Click Here to see the slideshow in a new window... I couldn't make it show up properly! :(

Dominic also loves hanging out in the youth center with his local cousins... Hannah and Caleb LOVE Dominic!

Whew! It's been a long month!!!

Sweet Dreams

Dominic makes a lot of faces in his sleep. We like to pretend we know what he's thinking...

What a good nap I'm having... I'm going to be sooooo awake at midnight...
Why does she flash that light every time I get so comfortable?
Watch this... I'm totally going to fake her out.
Here's my cute smile, and...
...back to sleep!!!

You Have To Start Early

Each fall, we kick off our small group ministry with our Back to School Bash weekend.  Groups spend the night together, do a mission project and then put together a tailgate tent for our tailgate party on Sunday evening.  This year, Brian's D-Group's tent had a football theme so, no surprises here, we all went dressed in our finest Steelers garb.  Dominic was sporting his #43 Troy Polamalu jersey.  It's a little big for him, but hopefully by the end of the season, it will fit just fine.  Brian hopes that by the end of the season, Dominic won't be yawning when it's time to talk about the Steelers!
All in all, it was a great night!  Between the student ministry and the children's ministry, we had a few hundred people there with dozens of tents set up.  What a fun way to start the year for our church family!

Important Lessons In Parenting

1. An important lesson everyone learns as a parent is that babies do not like to be wet... even if it is a warm source of wetness coming from their own person.

2. An important lesson I learned today is that babies REALLY do not like to be wet with ice water... especially if it comes from a 32 oz glass of ice water right into their lap. This will cause a baby to go from nearly asleep to the blood curdling "Why do you hate me?" scream in .25 seconds.

3. Another important lesson I learned today is that a clean diaper can absorb a lot of ice water pretty quickly.  Huggies, feel free to call me for a testimonial.

4. The final lesson I learned today is that any cup going into the cupholder on the stroller should actually fit snugly into the cupholder and have a secure lid!

I'm glad I could learn these lessons early enough that Dominic won't remember them and therefore hate me later for them. :)

Snapshots of July

Whose toy is this?

So after a month and a day, we finally busted out the play mat. Lucia was extremely excited to see all of the dangly, noisy things and was dying to get her paws (and her teeth) on them. Dominic on the other hand didn't seem to be quite as excited yet. Since his arms and legs are pretty much flying everywhere now, he was "playing" with them but it didn't take him long to get annoyed that the blue elephant kept hitting him in the face.

Five Weeks Ago Today...

Five weeks ago today, at 4:07 PM, we welcomed Dominic James Ross into the world. At a mere 7 pounds 5 ounces and 19 1/4 inches long, he proved once more that little people can make a huge impact. It has been my intention to create a blog so that you too can watch us grow up together. So soon I'll catch you up on what you've missed in the last few weeks, but for now, the baby's got to eat.
